Something She Said

It's been a chatty week with Twila.  We had our first discussion about what she wanted to be when she grows up.  It started off with a comment that I used to want to yell at the wait staff while working in a kitchen. "Chefs are people too, you know."  Come to think of it, I have had many jobs that involved thoughts that began "_{Insert professional title here}_ are people too you know!"  Her comment segued into "Business owners are people too." and "Artists are people too."  I'm not really sure what her thought process was. We were both cooking in our own kitchen spaces at home and she was making me some delicious tomato coffee when the conversation started.

Twila:  Mama, chefs are people too.
Me:  Yes, they are people.
T:  And business people are people too.
Me: Yes, they are.  You know people are always people.  Just because you have a certain profession, just because you have a job doesn't make you less human.  That's a good thing to remember.  I say instead of going on a rant to my 3 year old about the inner workings of offices, kitchens, etc., and how people need to respect each other.  {Instead, I have a very short and quiet inner monologue and this little tangent on my blog.  Done now.  Ahhhh.}  Papa has his job and is still a person.  I make art and I am still human.  That's a very interesting observation Twila.  Sooo, do you have any idea what you might like to do when you grow up?  I have never asked this before and so, I guess, I expected not to really get an answer.  Instead...
T:  I want to be an artist!
Me:  Awwww, you do??  That's so great! I cross over to her and give her a hug. Then decide to tone down my excitement.  I'd like to remain a bit more impartial to her important life decisions...  How come you think you would like to be an artist?
T:  I want to have a job where I can wear sneakers.  I laugh.  Hard.  Never saw that as a perk and agree...Girl's got a good head on her shoulders.  And, I want to make things that are pink.
Me:  Well, I think that that is a good choice then.  You have a lot of time to think about that though, huh?
T:  Yes.  But I really like pink.  Pink is my favorite color.

The photos above were taken the other day during our first water coloring session.  I think she quite liked it. I love the face she gets when she paints...she looks very serious and pensive.  This conversation by the way was not my favorite of the week.  What could possibly top it?  Well, the winner for me involves butterflies and magical dentistry.

Here are some other Instagram conversation should you care to take a look.
