DIY - Photo Blocks {a guest post}
About a month ago {wow, was it that long ago?!} I was asked to write a guest post for PocketChange Shopping Blog. Have you seen it? I was impressed by how many departments the site housed! The site is filled with articles and how-tos relating to home, fashion, pets, babies, health... But a very nice lady asked if I wouldn't mind writing about an idea for photo display.
Yay! I have made it a goal of mine for the last ten years or so {and even more importantly since Twila was born} to keep up with not just taking photos but printing out photos. Why take them if I am going to forget about them the second the shutter closes, you know?
In my last house I struggled with how to display photos without making the walls seemed crammed. In our new house I have plenty of wall space but have struggled with how to present images so as to stand out and make a presentation. In both cases my solution has been photo blocks. I find they are also a nice way to keep certain ideas fresh. In my studio, for example, I print out all the images that I like, all the images I might like to expand upon or, honestly, don't think they'd look as good in the rest of the house. But like I said, I'm not willing to forget about them. Most of the images in my studio are from my phone and I kind of like that it seems like a casual way to present casual images...plus, they're small enough blocks for a lower resolution image. They are easy and cheap to switch out and easy to add onto without looking odd. I'm going to fill the entire wall of this studio one day...not in a rush to do it but excited nonetheless!
I'd love for you to see the tutorial!

Charleston
I wish I had more time in Charleston, SC. It's a town so rich in beauty, history, and great food...really great food. But we just stopped through on our way home for a couple of hours. Okay, I'll be honest, we stopped there to eat. Doug and I love food. We love to cook. We love everything about eating! I guess we are both "Foodies" and I love him even more for it. Whoa, just got distracted from this post... I was about to go on an even bigger tangent about food and eating... Where was I??? Oh yes, Charleston. We stopped through to eat at HUSK. {I highly recommend eating there!} On the way I was able to snap a few photos. Twila seems to love traveling - not much fussing, enjoying new sites, tolerates me snapping photos of her in obscure locations... even hamming it up sometimes!
I am always reminded of New Orleans when I am there. Parts of Charleston also remind me of San Francisco. I think it must be some of the architecture... The bright colors, the water, old buildings, the Spanish Moss, friendly people - it's a really wonderful place. I can't wait to go back one day. Hopefully my next visit will be at least a day or two.

It's been awhile since I posted some phonography here, too long! Did I mention that round two of Me & You, 52 is under way?! Well, it is and we are up to "D", it's for "Dining". Here are two images from the week I decided not to use. What did I go with?? You can always join us in our flickr group should you like to play along! Happy dining!

Today is the day
Today is the day I would wish you all the happiness in the world.
Today is the day I would think of how to make you feel special.
Today is the day I would wish you the best of everything.
Today is the day I would want you to feel most loved.
Today is the day you would open your gifts.
Today is the day I would hope you had cake.
Today is the day we would sing to you.
Today is the day that is all about you.
Today is the day that I miss you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.
Today is a day like every day.

Me & You {Round One}
We just finished up round one of the Me & You, 52 project and have started on round two. This coming Monday we will be posting for the letter "C". {C is for Colorful by the way.} So, having finished up an entire first round I thought it would be nice to compile our diptychs. It was my first time using Blurb but I found it easy to use and am looking forward to seeing it in print in a couple of weeks. You don't have to purchase a copy to see the book however. I have the entire book available to see on the Blurb website or check it out right here!
As always, you can join in our mobile photography journey in our Flickr group or check out our diptychs, fresh every Monday, here on our blog. Thanks for checking it out!
P.S. I think pages 14 and 15 are my favorite. I combined both our shots from "H is for Hipstamatic". They were kind of asking for it...
