I was just sitting in my living room having some lunch with my little one and was thinking about getting back into our routine...planning things out. Then, it suddenly dawned on me that I hadn't posted or thought about posting this week's Phonography link up. I totally spaced out. So...since I did space out I thought about this image I created in the phone last week. Pretty spacey, eh? I quite like it. But I like these other two versions as well. The blue one may be my favorite...
I used Tiny Planet, Picture Show, and Diptych to create all of these.
If you would like to participate just link up below. Care to know more? You can check out the Phonography Page. Not many rules, only that your shot be from a phone, any kind. Look forward to seeing your shots! (Link-up will be open until midnight Friday) Thanks for playing!

Breaking Routine / Back to Routine
I had a lot of fun this weekend with Auntie in from New Orleans, the wedding, and some special family & friend evenings. To be honest, as a mom it seems to always make for a little extra work the days following the fun. It's way worth it but I do fall behind in the sanity department for about a week following missed bedtimes and skewed mealtimes. The last few days have been great however and are totally worth giving up a few days of order. I spent my first night away from the baby. Yes, she is two. No, I am not one of those mother's who doesn't want some alone time. I don't resent it or long for it to be honest. It just hasn't worked out. We have tried in the past to take a weekend here or there but our sitter gets sick or something doesn't work out so our vacations and weekends away are usually with the three of us which is great. But this last weekend I was able to spend some time away for some bachelorette (and wedding) fun in a secluded cabin nestled in the Smoky Mountains.
The bride invited women she had known through the last, well, almost three decades. It was a lot of fun to get to know her better through stories and also to meet such a great group of women. Funny, but it struck me that all the women in Trena's life are really strong, motivated, beautiful women... The weekend was fun, relaxing, and even though I was responsible for taking photos there was not one iota of stress. The day just seemed so perfect. I have never been to a wedding like this where every single guest was relaxed, happy to be there, laughing, just in the moment. It was a special time and I feel glad to have gotten to share in it. But back to the cabin...
The view was spectacular
Susan had decorated with a nice Appalachian charm-these mason jars with tea lights showcased the view upon arrival and even in the foggy morning the next day. I hadn't ever gotten to experience the "Smoke" of the Smoky Mountains. It lingered a long time and was lovely.
Since I arrived with Anna early (to go through the rehearsal) we were able to enjoy the whole afternoon sipping margaritas on the porch, surrounded by mountains and very little people. It was so still and quiet. I was amazed to only see one squirrel and to hear only two birds.
Then, evening fell and guests began to arrive. Introductions, wine, laughing... and some more time on the porch.
It felt good to have some time to do nothing except enjoy the moment and the company. Now, back to routine- recharged and excited for my next evening getaway. Hope your holiday weekend was just as enjoyable.

A perfect day for a wedding
In a moment of true love for a friend I decided to shoot her wedding. Really, I probably would have spent the day shooting either way but I would have stopped to eat much more if I didn't have tasks. I can't believe I forgot to eat a piece of cake! But the day was lovely, perfect really, and everyone was relaxed, happy, so glad to be doing exactly what we were doing. It was one of those weddings that you could feel like these people are really going to have a great life together. It was a dream to shoot-lots of fun people glad to be celebrating. So...lots of photos (1649 to be exact) but I think this is my favorite so far.
This really sums up what I know of David and Trena- they enjoy each other's company, they make each other laugh, they are in the moment...they were very happy.

Sunrise over a piece of wood
This is a detail from one of the trains at the Train Museum. I thought that the rust, faded paint, and the detail of that circle looked just like a scene of a sunrise... a very textured sunrise.
Have a good weekend everyone!

I am going through a phase, please humor me.
Yes, more circles... I just love the way they present focused snippets of the whole story. Plus, I love the way the look. So, for this round of the ACoLab, #20, the theme was "Outside Your Front Door". I thought about shooting right outside my door but have been shooting (as many of us do) where I stand. Sometimes these feet photos are the only shots I have of me and I kinda like the vantage point. I especially like it when my daughter is below. Here is what I submitted:

Incidentally, yesterday while having some lunch in the living room with Twila, I stepped away to grab a napkin in the kitchen. When I returned, Twila was out of her seat with my phone in hand saying, "Ohhhh..Oooo" and "hmmm". As I approached to see what was so interesting I noticed she had selected the Hipstamatic app and was looking at her feet from various angles by moving the phone around. I showed her how to use the button to take the photo and she took this shot to the left. She took a few and then experimented moving in closer. It was hard to get her to start eating again after she got hooked on seeing what she could do. I think she was even more excited when I showed the photos she took back to her. It was a proud mom moment.

The Train Station - Edited
If you saw yesterday's post you may have put the clues together to know that we went on a very special train ride with Thomas the Train. Twila loved it and I loved seeing her love it. The day was awesome and I did get to do some shooting of some pretty trains. The event was held at the Train Museum (which is outdoors) in Chattanooga. While hopping off the train I noticed this scene. I wondered if the bags were just for appearance (probably so) but they do still run a few trains from here so I wonder.
Kim Klassen's challenge for this week is to use the texture "yesteryear". Upon knowing this I instantly remembered this image. I tried something new this time and did two different edited looks and combined them to make a third finished image. It was kind of a Goldilocks moment - This image is too dark, this image is too bright, this image was juuust right.
The first one I made appeared a bit too heavy handed to me but I still like the textures I used. I thought the writing in the texture "Pour Vous" was too pretty and too perfect to not use.
The second one I created was too light I thought. Although I like it as a complete image I thought it lacked some punch. I did like the way the text was more subtle in the "Old World" texture. I thought I would stop here so erased the texture from the suitcase a bit and adjusted the levels a bit. In the end it still seemed a little unfinished.

So, I combined version 1 and 2 and got this image. The red seems to punch a little more.
The brights still needed some more brightness though so I added some brightness.

She was from the past...
...but kept an eye on the future.
She never uttered a word.
I am still collecting cabinet cards that I am allowed to use and edit freely. This image is redone from a pretty one I found at MudBay Images. I never intended to make a demented image of this woman; however, while editing the image to use the frame I stumbled onto this and somehow became fond of it. I don't know what it is that I like so much... maybe it's the light, maybe it's that with only one eye, her gaze appears differently...it's like she is looking at the viewer instead of away for her portrait. (I showed my husband and think it freaked him out a little.) I tried one with the correct proportions and didn't like it as much. So, like Bob Ross, I will call this "my happy little accident". I love the way portraits would just fade into the background. Her dress looks so soft as does her skin and then it just disappears, so lovely. I think I am going to have to try and re-create this with my own family portraits... two eyes and all!
I did make a texture/frame out of this pretty card. If you would like it you can visit the Me to You page and have it to use in your own projects. The card is lovely and compliments landscapes quite well I think.

Let's Celebrate/A True Giveaway
Yesterday I crossed the 100 followers for Pasando and also read this while catching up on some blog reading. Both these things made me feel great! Thank you Teagan for putting such a smile on my face.
She said some of the nicest things anyone has ever said behind my back! (Smiles) I often wonder how many people I will scare away with some of the photos I post and then read something so nice and validating like what she wrote. I've said it before and am sure this won't be the last time but validation is awesome. It's always welcome and when it's out of the blue, even better. Teagan creates some really beautiful images! Check out her blog to read some wonderful poetry and see what's going on in her creative mind.
So, feeling good...let's celebrate! I thought it would be a nice idea to give away some photos. I'm not sure if it will be in the form of cards, prints, postcards... but if you would like the chance to win please just leave a comment with what image(s) you would want or a post link that has image(s) you would like. That's it. You can choose an image from this blog, any of my images from the ACoLab, my Etsy shop, or even my Flickr. I think I will probably pick a few winners if not everyone who comments so c'mon! Oh, and many thanks to all of you. Blogging has changed my life for the better in so many ways...something that always seems to surprise me for some reason. But it has and I think this great community of Bloggers I have been lucky to encounter has made that possible. You guys are awesome, I mean it. Now let me give you some art!
PS-I think I will leave this giveaway open through next Friday.

Phonography #39 - Direction
It's been a week full of arrows. For some reason they have been catching my eye (and my fancy) all over the place! I linked this shot the other day with Courtney's weekend cell link up. It seemed appropriate while we were on another round of house hunting. It's almost comical at this point. But it does seem like a lot more listings are popping up lately so that gives us hope.

This link will be open until midnight Friday (EST).
Onto Phonography... Link up here with your favorite shot(s) of the week. The only rule is that your shot be taken with a cell phone, any kind. If you would like to read more or see other rounds you can visit the Phonography page. Look forward to seeing your shots!

The theme for Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday link-up is "Vintage". I thought about this image I took last summer while visiting my aunt and cousin. They had this vintage typewriter set up in their living room. Actually, they had several different vintage items setup around the house...it was like it had been set up for a variety of photo shoots; it was awesome. Honestly, I did try using a few images before this one but they just didn't work for the theme.
I have been trying my hand at clipping masks lately and have a minor obsession with finding old cabinet cards that I am allowed to take and edit freely. This frame to the left is one of them. Would you like it? I am going to attach a PNG of the file on my giveaway page if you would like to use it. Just scroll down to the "frames" section. I also have a Photoshop file but am not sure how to go about sharing it. Anyone know about an easy way to do that? In the meantime, if you would like a copy please just leave me a comment with your email and I can send you the PS file including the clipping mask all ready for you to drop in your image. I like how this image turned out. The latest texture Kim gave away would have been nice too but I played around with some of her older giveaways.
Here is the SOOC and the screenshot.
I ended up using the October layer a few times, the Chamomile texture and the "Layer 1" I forgot to rename...it is the "January 7 Paper Grunge" texture.
I still marvel at how much some little tweeks in PS can change the whole mood of an image, complete the story. I love how they can make something out of nothing. I also love the generosity of people like Kim Klassen. They make it possible to inspire while learning and they do it for free. Puts a smile on my face every time.
